Although "The Secret" sounds as if all you have to do is envision what you want and then send happy thoughts out into the universe to get it, it's a little bit more complicated than that.Although I do believe in the Law of Attraction, I also believe that there is another "law" at work here, and if you really want to succeed, you have to follow this law, the "Law of Action." Another pitfall to avoid is wanting things for the wrong reasons. The unfortunate truth is that there are many successful people in the world who seem to have it all, and yet they are miserable and unhappy with what they have. You can avoid this by taking certain steps first. To have what you want in life, to be what you want and then enjoy it when you get it, you need an action plan. You can start on the road to success by asking yourself these five questions:
If in the future there is a Hall of Fame dedicated to success self help books, then "The Science of Getting Rich" will definitely be in the list of those books. This book is extremely catchy and it is exciting because it is short to the point and this makes it quite appealing and readable. Wallace wrote this book a hundred year ago from now and it deals with the concept of acquisition of wealth faster. This book will not tell you how to raise your self-esteem or determining goals and having a happy life. It focuses on money making and nothing else apart from that. What I liked about this book is that Wallace very boldly cuts to the chase. In this book he asserts that we all have the right to be wealthy or rich. But, he never promotes selfishness, greed or even trampling over others.
Are there skills you need to develop? Do you need to go back to school, etc.? Before you take such drastic steps, consider talents you already have. You may need to do nothing more than to start taking action, and if you look at your talents, you may just realize what you really want to do with your life. What action steps will you take? Although there are many ways to do this, my favorite way, and the easiest way I know of, is recommended by Mark Joyner of Simpleology. It's called The Backward Planner.Basically, all you have to do is write down the end result of what you want to achieve and then write the steps you need to take, backwards, to get what you want. For example, if you want to earn $10,000 a month, that's your end state. Now, write down the steps you'll take to achieve that. It could be something like doing 10 joint ventures. Write down each step involved in making that step happen.
In 1908 Wattles was a candidate for election to the Eighth Congressional District of Indiana. Subsequently, he ran in the 1910 election for the office of Prosecuting Attorney for the Madison County, Indiana court. He did not win either of these elections. He died in 1911, shortly after The Science of Getting Rich was published. Even though he had little education, grew up in a simple working-class family, and was poor most of his life, Wattles became a wealthy man by the time of his death.
Shortly after his death, his daughter, Florence, wrote a letter to Elizabeth Towne in which she described the last 15 years of her father's life. In that letter Florence shared the story of the poverty the family was dealing with near the end of 1896, her father's efforts to provide for the family and his commitment to his philosophy. During his last years "he wrote almost constantly" to capture his philosophy in writing. His efforts paid off, and Florence commented in the letter to Mrs. Towne that "in the last three years he made lots of money".
Today, looking back at my formal education, it seems unfortunate that even after many years of public school, and many years getting three degrees at three different colleges, not once - not once - were Wattles' ideas ever discussed in school. Four years of business school and the concept of being a 'good capitalist' was never discussed. I'm sure that those two words were never mentioned in the same sentence during my entire time in college. So, when I discovered The Science of Getting Rich by Wattles, I was amazed and relieved that I had finally found someone that was willing to openly discuss and share the same ideas and concepts that I was struggling to understand as a young man. Someone that was willing to apply the ideas and concepts of being a good capitalist and a good Christian to his own life and business. I couldn't believe that this simple little book was not mandatory reading in my MBA program. Maybe his message was considered too simple and unsophisticated. Well, Wattles' message might be a simple one, but it is an important one. His message has endured for the last one-hundred years - and it will endure for the next hundred. And its a message that every American, and everyone that wants to live the American dream, needs to understand.
The Science of Getting Rich is a book written by famous writer Wallace Wattles. He was born at the time when there was war all over United States in the 1800s. Wallace Wattles did face a lot of failures and hardships in his early life, and later in his life he did lot of tireless studies and various experimentations, which he has used in this book. This book is ideal for men and women alike because it is a practical manual and it tells everything about achieving goals and earning money. The practical approach of The Science of Getting Rich is what makes it different from other books in its league and thereby making it a huge success.
Wattles uses short, interesting statements to show you how these principles can and should apply to your life. Chapter 5, titled "Increasing Life" is probably my favorite chapter in the book. Here is a quote from that chapter that sums up the theme of the entire book: "What God wants is that you should make the most of yourself, for yourself, and for others; and you can help others more by making the most of yourself than in any other way. You can make the most of yourself only by getting rich; so it is right and praiseworthy that you should give your first and best thought to the work of acquiring wealth."Another recurring theme throughout his book is about becoming rich and successful on the creative (creating wealth) plain, not on the competitive (me vs. you) plain: "You are to become a creator, not a competitor; you are going to get what you want, but in such a way that when you get it every other man will have more than he has now." Wattles' statements are practical, insightful, and inspirational all at the same time.
It is a book that Wallace wrote hundred years ago to make people understand the concept of wealth acquisition faster. This is a book that will only tell you about how to make money and it has nothing to do with raising your self-esteem or identifying goals to lead a happy life. Wallace is direct to the point and makes it clear that everyone has the right to be rich and wealthy. However, he never ever promotes negativity like greed or selfishness.
The Science of Getting Rich is an exciting book, however, there is one negative aspect about this book; it is a psychobabble and for some readers it might not be very much appealing. The Science of Getting Rich will not tell you about the types of investments that you should make to become rich or about any exercise that will help you to become rich. It is a book that will tell you that to become rich you have to manage your day-to-day business affairs efficiently, so that money can come in. So, as a whole this a great book to read because it is extremely appealing and it is true to its subject matter.
